Entering a Grid Reference

Please make sure the grid reference is in Ordnance Survey format and not latitude/longitude. Ordnance Survey 6, 8 or 12 figure grid references are can be entered. You DO NOT need to enter the sheet reference (SU or TQ). The example below shows how to determine the grid reference from an Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 map:

There will be a 2 digit number for each square marked along the edge of the map. Count the number of bars along the edge of the square and add this to the 2 digit number to get the Easting and Northing of the grid reference. For example: square 11 + 2 bars = 112 and square 61 + 3 bars = 613. So the grid reference is 112,613.
